Learn More about Freedom Village - Moffat, CO

Building Communities Where People Know Their Neighbors

Building Communities Where People Know Their Neighbors

Modern cabin with wood and glass design in a forest setting.

Freedom Village is more than a RV campground development; it's a new model for community.

Designed through a partnership between SkyStone Vale and Unity Harbour, Freedom Village combines affordable living, shared infrastructure, and our Active Bystander Model to create neighborhoods that follow zoning guidelines where people don't just have a place to live, they have people who care.

Built to Last

Freedom Village is designed to be financially sustainable through a combination of resident participation, cooperative stewardship, partnerships, memberships, grants, donations, and mission-aligned revenue.

Our goal is to build communities that remain affordable without sacrificing long-term stability. Slow start for beautiful results.

Looking Ahead / Why Freedom Village Exists

Building Communities Where People Know Their Neighbors

Freedom Village One is our pilot community.

Our long-term vision is to create a repeatable model that can be adapted by communities throughout Colorado and eventually across the United States.

Each new village strengthens the network, shares lessons learned, and expands opportunities for affordable, community-centered living.

Across the country, people are facing rising housing costs, increasing isolation, and fewer opportunities to build lasting community.

Freedom Village was created to address these challenges by combining affordable living, resilient infrastructure, and intentional community design. We believe that stable housing is strengthened when neighbors know one another, contribute their unique skills, and work together to build communities where everyone belongs.

Our Vision / Our Community Values

Charming yellow tiny house surrounded by lush greenery and trees.

We believe stable housing is only the beginning.

Thriving communities require:

  • Safe, affordable places to live.
  • Shared spaces that encourage connection.
  • Neighbors who actively look out for one another.
  • Opportunities to contribute through work, volunteering, or stewardship.
  • Infrastructure designed for resilience.

Freedom Village is being built around those principles.

 Our Community Values

  • Respect
  • Stewardship
  • Accessibility
  • Accountability
  • Cooperation
  • Privacy
  • Kindness

   Future Vision

Freedom Village One is the beginning of a broader vision to create replicable, community-centered developments throughout Colorado and eventually across the United States. Each new community will adapt to local needs while sharing the same principles of stewardship, resilience, and neighbor-to-neighbor support.

The Active Bystander Model

Traditional neighborhoods often leave people isolated.  Freedom Village is different.

Residents are connected through small support groups, shared community spaces, and regular opportunities to know one another.

The goal isn't to invade privacy.  The goal is to create a culture where people naturally notice when a neighbor needs help and feel empowered to respond before challenges become crises.

Because community is strongest when everyone belongs.

The Active Bystander Model is based on a simple idea: communities become stronger when people notice one another before a crisis occurs.

Every resident is encouraged to build meaningful relationships within the community through small support circles, shared activities, and regular connection. Rather than relying solely on formal services, neighbors become part of a culture that checking in, offering help, and sharing skills are normal parts of community life.

The goal isn't to remove independence, it's to strengthen it through relationships.

Community Life

Freedom Village is designed for people who value both independence and connection.

Residents are encouraged to participate in community life in ways that fit their abilities.

Examples include:

  • Gardening
  • Community meals
  • Skill sharing
  • Volunteer projects
  • Emergency preparedness
  • Mentoring
  • Community stewardship

Participation builds relationship,  not obligations.

A Day at Freedom Village
